I was moved to record "rape me" as the b-side to "sweetnsour sally" for a number of reasons. In part, Dave Graeber's recent passing felt like a re-awakening. I need to continue creating spaces to open up conversations about social structures and traumas that affect us all, whether they be debt or sexual assault. The more I learn about trauma--informed by my own, the Take Back the Night movement and the work of Ruth King, Serene Jones, Resmaa Menakem and Bessel van der Kolk--the more I see our willingness to share with each other our burdens, sorrows and truth as the key to our national, global healing.
